The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), which has been accepting applications for high speed broadband grants and loans from carriers in rural areas since November 24, 2021, will close the application window on February 22, 2022.
Funds may be used for the construction or improvement of facilities to provide fixed terrestrial broadband service, reasonable pre-application expenses, and/or the acquisition of an existing system that does not provide sufficient broadband service.
Basic eligibility requirements include that 1} 90% of households in the Proposed Funded Service Area {PFSA} lack sufficient access to broadband; 2 }the proposed network must be capable of providing 100/100 service to every premise in the PFSA; and the PFSA must be a rural area as so defined.
Carriers may apply for a 100% grant, a 50/50% grant/loan, or a 100% loan.
